Michael Charrois New Democrat Candidate in Burnaby North-Seymour
Who I Am
I am a 62-year-old proud resident of the Seymour section of the Burnaby North-Seymour riding. As a unionized professional actor and a dedicated theatre arts instructor with the City of Burnaby’s Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, I’ve spent my life embracing creativity, collaboration, and the power of storytelling. I’ve been an active member of the New Democratic Party since before the turn of the century, and I’m passionate about building a better, fairer Canada for everyone.

Why I’m Running
I like people. I believe in the power of connection. I love listening to people’s stories, sharing those stories, and working together on projects that create lasting change. As a Constituency Advisor in MLA Susie Chant’s community office since 2020, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be for people to navigate “the system,” and I’ve dedicated myself to helping them succeed. Now, I’m ready to take that commitment to the next level by representing Burnaby North-Seymour and standing up for our community’s values in Ottawa.
My Experience in the Community
For five years, I worked on the frontlines as a Constituency Advisor in MLA Susie Chant’s community office, advocating for residents and ensuring their voices were heard. Since 2017, I’ve served as President of the North Vancouver-Seymour BC New Democrats, and I am also a past president of the North Vancouver federal NDP EDA.
As a theatre arts instructor, I’ve brought creative community programs to Burnaby’s Shadbolt Centre, the Christine Sinclair Rec Centre, and schools across North Burnaby, including Gilmore, Aubrey, Westridge, and Montecito. Beyond my professional life, I’ve led local initiatives as President of the Lower Lonsdale Community Garden and Treasurer for the North Shore Community Garden Association, fostering food security, sustainability and community engagement.
My Priorities
Canada should be a country where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. That means ensuring:
- Good Unionized Jobs and Affordable Living: Every Canadian should have access to a job that provides enough to afford a home, a fridge full of groceries, and savings for the future.
- Accessible Health Care: Health care should always be there when you need it, whether it’s for a check-up, dental care, or life-saving medications.
I believe every Canadian deserves that. Health care must include primary care, pharma care, dental, vision, and mental health care. How to pay for it all? Tax billionaires out of existance, windfall taxes on corporations and their record profits, and property taxes on churches.
Unfortunately, the Trudeau Liberals have repeatedly failed to deliver on their promises. They’ve prioritized the powerful over people, and Canadians deserve better.
As an NDP candidate, I will fight for:
- Building affordable homes.
- Expanding universal health care to include dental, vision, prescription medications, mental health and protect free birth control from the Cut and Gut Conservatives.
- Lowering the cost of living for families.
The New Democrats have a track record of fighting for these priorities. We used our position in the House of Commons to push for dental care, free birth control, and diabetes medication—and we didn’t back down when the Liberals said no. New Democrats invented our nation-defining public single-payer health care system and we are the only party that can be trusted to protect it. New Democrats will not let Pierre Poilievre and the Cut and Gut Conservatives undo progress or make callous cuts to vital programs like health care, child care, housing, and pensions.
Together, we can build a Canada where we take better care of each other, stand up to threats like Trump’s tariffs, and ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Join me in this fight for a brighter future.

Svend Robinson Endorsement
It is my great pleasure to endorse Michael as the NDP candidate for Burnaby North-Seymour in the 2025 federal election. I have known Michael to be a dedicated member who has served the Party in many capacities. He is a tireless worker, serving in many roles including candidate for the NDP in the 2008 and 2011 federal elections for North Vancouver and the 2017 candidate for the BC NDP in North Vancouver- Seymour. Michael also has years of experience working as a front line worker in MLA Susie Chant’s constituency office. Our community will be well served by Michael. Let’s send strong representation to Ottawa in these critical times.

Jim Hanson endorses Michael Charrois
Michael Charrois understands the issues. Like us, he lives right here and pays the same prices for groceries and housing as the rest of us. He has spoken with thousands of members of our community about their needs, as an MLA community organizer, community activitist, political candidate and even as a performing artist in theatre and television.
We are at a crossroads. We need real leadership.
For that leadership on the issues that matter, I am voting Michael Charrois.
Jim Hanson, Councillor, District of North Vancouver

Bill Siksay – As a former MP for this riding, I’m excited to support Michael.
His experience as a constituency assistant to MLA Susie Chant means he has on-the-ground experience of our local issues and how to help folks resolve them. As an actor and union leader Michael will bring a perspective on Canadian culture and the arts, and on working people, that is often missing from the House of Commons. He’s got my vote on April 28th.
